Bridging the gap between education and the world of work through real experiences and connection.

Joining the Dots connects young people and schools with real businesses.

Helping them understand the world of work, build confidence, and explore what’s possible - so they can make better, more informed choices about their future.

For businesses, it’s a simple, meaningful way to share what you do, give back, and connect with the next generation of talent.

The Challenge we're solving for young people

Many young people are asked to think about their future before they’ve had the chance to:

  • Understand the types of jobs and roles that actually exist.
  • See what different jobs are really like day-to-day.
  • Discover what they enjoy and what they’re good at.
  • Experience a real workplace.
  • Build confidence through real conversations and experiences.

Too often, this leaves young people feeling unsure and making choices that may not be right for them.

The Challenge we're solving for small businesses

  • Struggle to attract and retain the right people.
  • Want to inspire and support young people but don’t know how to connect.
  • Don’t have the time or structure for traditional work placements.
  • Want to give back in a way that feels realistic and meaningful.

They have valuable experience, insight and stories to share - but no simple way to do it.

Introducing Joining the Dots

Joining the Dots is a new initiative created by LRComms to bring these two worlds together.

Thanks to our online digital platform, we connect young people, schools and businesses in a way that:

is simple
is supported
works in the real world

Young people gain real-life insight and confidence.

Businesses build awareness, connection and future talent.

Schools are supported to deliver meaningful careers education.

Why this matters?

When young people understand the world of work, they make better choices.

When businesses are involved, communities grow stronger.

And when those connections happen early, the benefits last far beyond school.

This is about:

  • confidence
  • clarity
  • opportunity
  • long-term thinking

Why Joining The Dots?

The world of work is changing fast.

New ways of working, advances in technology and AI mean careers today look very different to those of previous generations. Yet for many young people, what actually happens inside businesses - the roles, skills and routes in - remains largely invisible.

Schools are working hard to support students, often with limited time, resource and access to real workplaces. At the same time, there’s still a strong bias towards traditional paths, which can limit how young people see their options.

Joining the Dots exists to help change that.

Built on years of experience working closely with businesses and people, the platform helps break down barriers, open doors and widen perspectives - encouraging curiosity, connection and a broader view of what a career can look like.

It’s designed to be human, supportive and practical - helping young people explore real options, and supporting schools and businesses to do this together.

Meet Lucy - The Founder

Joining the Dots was created by Lucy Rennie, a business strategist and communications specialist with over 25 years’ experience working with small businesses.

Lucy believes everyone deserves the chance to feel fulfilled at work - and that starts with understanding real workplaces, real roles and real strengths. Through her work, she’s seen countless brilliant businesses across industries like manufacturing, engineering, tech and beyond struggle to attract great people - not because the work isn’t valuable, but because it’s often invisible or misunderstood.

At the same time, young people are being asked to make big decisions without real insight into what’s possible.

Joining the Dots brings those two worlds together.

Joining the Dots is currently supported through pilot funding, allowing schools to take part without additional cost during this phase.

This helps us test, learn and build the platform sustainably.
